Xpeng recalls 33,473 X9 SUVs in China over air‑suspension defect

Chinese electric‑vehicle maker Xpeng has announced a recall of 33,473 X9 SUVs manufactured between 8 August 2023 and 11 August 2025. The recall, filed with the State Administration for Market Regulation, targets a front air‑spring seal defect that can cause gradual air loss in high heat and humidity, potentially impairing vehicle handling and safety. Owners will receive a free replacement of the front air‑spring sliding‑pillar assembly, with the campaign scheduled to begin on 28 August 2026. The issue was highlighted after numerous owners, especially in Chongqing, reported chassis sagging and warning lights during prolonged exposure to hot, humid conditions. Xpeng stated that the defect stems from manufacturing variability that compromised component airtightness, not merely a thermal‑protection mode.

The recall follows earlier customer complaints and an interim warranty extension, but Xpeng now moves to a full hardware fix to eliminate the safety risk.
