China accuses US Ambassador to Mexico of sowing discord

The Chinese Embassy in Mexico has issued a formal rejection of statements made by US Ambassador Ronald Johnson and Deputy Assistant Secretary Ricardo Pita Macedo. During a global investors conference, Johnson suggested that China might benefit from a chaotic and insecure environment on the US-Mexico border and questioned the reliability of Chinese companies.

In response, the Chinese Embassy accused the US officials of distorting the truth and attempting to deliberately damage the diplomatic relationship between China and Mexico. The embassy stated that China supports Mexico's sovereignty, security, and economic stability.

China also countered US criticisms by highlighting the role of US drug demand and the illegal flow of weapons from the United States into Mexico as primary drivers of criminal violence. The embassy characterized the claims of “Chinese malice” as unfounded and accused US officials of denigrating Chinese businesses to promote American commercial interests.
