China reports 5.1% growth in fiscal revenue for first nine months of 2026

China's fiscal revenue grew by 5.1% year-on-year during the first nine months of 2026, reaching approximately 17.23 trillion yuan (US$2.56 trillion), according to data from the Ministry of Finance. This growth rate represents a 0.4 percentage point increase compared to the growth seen in the first half of the year.

Tax revenue rose 6.1% to 14.07 trillion yuan, driven by a 7.1% increase in corporate income tax and a 6% rise in value-added tax. However, revenue from government land sales saw a significant decline of 27.9% due to the ongoing property sector downturn.

Fiscal expenditure increased by 1% to 21.02 trillion yuan. Notable increases in spending were observed in healthcare, which rose 7.7% to 1.69 trillion yuan, and social security and employment, which grew 5.2% to 3.67 trillion yuan.

In a separate report, China's foreign trade also showed strong momentum. Total imports and exports climbed 18.8% year-on-year to 39.94 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, marking the strongest growth for this period in five years. Exports of high-tech goods, such as integrated circuits and electric vehicles, saw substantial increases.
