China resumes rescue efforts near China-Nepal border lake
Chinese authorities have resumed rescue operations near the China-Nepal border after assessing that the risk from a newly formed upstream lake is now controllable. Following a devastating flash flood on August 26 that caused significant casualties and destruction, rescue teams were temporarily withdrawn to safety due to fears of the dam bursting and triggering secondary disasters like landslides or avalanches. During the assessment period, engineers utilized aerial surveys and 3D modeling to monitor the situation.
Data indicates the lake's volume has reached over 2.5 million cubic meters, an increase from previous estimates of 1.5 to 2 million cubic meters. Engineers noted that steep cliffs along the lake shore present significant challenges for accessing the area.
