China robotics industry faces divergence as bankruptcies rise and big tech enters
The robotics industry in China is experiencing a period of extreme polarization. Over the past 19 months, more than 20 robotics companies have faced bankruptcy, dissolution, or liquidation. Notable examples include Yinghe Robotics, which underwent bankruptcy liquidation proceedings, and companies like Shenlan Robotics and Dathe Robotics, which saw significant valuation drops alongside insolvency filings.
Despite these failures, the sector continues to attract massive investment. In the first eight months of 2026, robotics financing reached 124.5 billion RMB, doubling the total from the previous year. Approximately 50 companies are currently in the process of seeking public listings.
Industry analysts suggest a dual bubble is bursting: a technical bubble involving unproven capabilities and a capital bubble driven by inflated valuations. While high-quality firms continue to secure funding and pursue IPOs, low-quality projects lacking positive cash flow are being cleared from the market. This shift is further complicated by the entry of major technology players like OpenAI and ByteDance, which are integrating large-scale models with physical hardware, creating new competitive pressures for specialized startups.
