China aims to become global science and technology leader by 2035

President Xi Jinping urged Chinese scientists and engineers to make the country a leading power in science and technology by 2035, calling for accelerated efforts toward high‑level self‑reliance. He said the 15th Five‑Year Plan (2026‑2030) is a critical phase and highlighted achievements in artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and battery technology, noting the need to transform China from a manufacturing hub into a major innovator.

Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang reinforced the message, calling for full implementation of the nation’s sci‑tech policies to secure autonomy and strength. He emphasized coordinated development of education, research, talent and industrial demand, and urged the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering to lead in honest, high‑impact research and AI‑driven breakthroughs.
