China sends 1,300 dual-use component shipments to Iran
Reports indicate that China has continued to supply Iran with dual-use components despite ongoing conflicts involving the United States and Israel. According to data cited by the Wall Street Journal from Iranian customs records, approximately 1,300 air shipments were sent to Iran’s Ministry of Defense during the first half of 2026.
These shipments included GPS devices, electric motors, aircraft engine parts, and other electronics capable of supporting drone and missile programs. One specific delivery arrived on June 17, coinciding with a temporary ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, while China was publicly advocating for peace. Shortly after, additional shipments worth over $6 million arrived, which analysts suggest could be used for drone production.
To facilitate these deliveries, air cargo links have expanded significantly. Mahan Air, an Iranian carrier under U.S. sanctions, increased its flights from Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to Tehran from four per week in early March to roughly 27 per week by late April.
While Beijing maintains that it respects international law and supports regional peace, U.S. officials and lawmakers, including Senator Elissa Slotkin, have raised concerns. They allege that Chinese entities are helping Tehran bypass sanctions, maintain military capabilities, and utilize the yuan to circumvent the U.S. financial system.
