China shifts export focus toward high-tech goods and electric vehicles

China is undergoing a significant shift in its export profile, moving away from low-cost consumer goods like textiles and toys toward high-value, high-tech products. This new wave of exports includes electric vehicles, AI chips, complex machinery, advanced chemicals, and data center equipment.

Driven by over a decade of state-supported efforts to climb the global manufacturing value chain, China now exports more automobiles than the United States and Germany combined. These advancements are bolstered by significant government subsidies intended to sustain the economy amidst a domestic real estate crisis and to stimulate manufacturing.

While this trend provides global consumers with affordable, modern technology, it has created trade tensions. Manufacturers and workers in the United States and Germany face increased competition, raising concerns regarding job security in traditional industrial sectors.
