China takes lead from OPEC in stabilizing global oil markets

Igor Sechin, CEO of Rosneft, stated at the Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum in Vladivostok that China has effectively taken the lead from OPEC in stabilizing global oil markets. Sechin noted that China achieved this by reducing its crude oil imports by approximately 5.5 million barrels per day this year, acting as a decisive market stabilizer without being a member of a formal cartel.

Sechin highlighted that China's growing strategic and commercial oil reserves, estimated at up to 1.4 billion barrels, provide the nation with significant leverage in the energy market. He predicted that China's influence will continue to expand as OPEC's membership and overall influence decline.

In a related development regarding energy logistics, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that China is set to become the primary destination for Russian gas, with projections suggesting it will absorb over 60% of Russia's total gas exports by 2030.
