China signals readiness to coordinate economic policy with EU

Chinese Finance Minister Lan Foan has expressed readiness to cooperate with the European Union to address global economic imbalances and improve international economic governance. During a meeting in Bangkok with senior European officials, including European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Lan emphasized the need for enhanced communication and the coordination of macroeconomic policies.

Lan characterized global economic imbalances as complex structural issues exacerbated by geopolitical conflicts and protectionist policies. He urged all parties to adopt a comprehensive and objective perspective on these imbalances rather than relying on unilateral views.

The discussions occur amid ongoing trade tensions, following a recent agreement between Beijing and Brussels to limit Chinese hybrid vehicle exports to the European market. The EU is currently seeking to reduce its trade deficit with China, which reached approximately 360 billion euros in 2025.
