China solar and wind installations surge in July 2026

China experienced a significant rebound in renewable energy installations during July 2026. According to data from the National Energy Administration (NEA), solar PV installations reached 14.08 GW, marking a 28% increase compared to the same month last year. This growth was driven by a mix of utility, commercial and industrial, and rooftop solar, with the residential distributed PV segment performing better than expected.

Wind power also saw a substantial surge, with 8.45 GW installed in July, representing a 271% year-on-year increase. Total installed power capacity in the country reached 4.08 TW, up 11% from the previous year. Total solar capacity now stands at 1,290 GW, while wind capacity has reached 690 GW.

Despite the July surge, cumulative solar installations for the January-July period reached 86.15 GW, which is a 61% decline compared to the same period in the previous year. Analysts suggest this cumulative drop is due to a policy-driven installation rush in May 2025. While July showed growth, experts note that installations may taper off after November as winter approaches.
