China strengthens safety regulations for automotive and consumer products
Chinese regulatory authorities are implementing stricter safety and quality standards across several sectors. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has introduced new measures to regulate automotive data security and innovation design. These rules aim to address risks associated with rapid technological deployment, such as issues with OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, assisted driving liability, and insufficient testing of new hardware and software.
Simultaneously, the State Administration for Market Regulation has announced new CCC (China Compulsory Certificate) implementation rules effective November 1. These regulations target electric bicycles, toys, and strollers. For electric bicycles, the rules mandate a “one vehicle, one battery, one charger, one code” system to ensure component consistency and prevent unauthorized modifications. For toys, the new rules emphasize age-appropriate warnings and functional limitations to enhance child safety.
