China targets 30 trillion yuan in electronics revenue by 2030
China has unveiled a development plan for its electronic information manufacturing industry covering the 2026-2030 period. The strategy, jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission, targets a combined revenue of over 30 trillion yuan by 2030 and an R&D investment intensity of 3.5%.
The plan prioritizes breakthroughs in full-chain integrated circuits, AI hardware, intelligent sensors, and advanced computing to build a more independent and controllable supply chain. Key focus areas include semiconductors, photonics, and autonomous-driving control systems, alongside the broader use of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System.
This push for self-reliance occurs amid a growing global techno-economic bifurcation. While the United States utilizes the CHIPS Act to reshore production, China is advancing its domestic capabilities, such as SMIC’s new production lines. This trend suggests the emergence of two parallel economic systems with distinct technology standards, supply chains, and strategic mineral dependencies, moving beyond simple decoupling toward a more durable division in sectors like semiconductors, AI, and telecommunications.
