China targets 440 million tonnes of oil and gas supply by 2030

China has announced a new five-year plan aimed at bolstering its domestic oil and gas supply to enhance energy security. According to the National Energy Administration (NEA) and the National Development and Reform Commission, the country aims to reach an internal supply of 440 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030.

To support this goal, the plan includes expanding the nation's pipeline infrastructure by adding 20,000 kilometers of long-distance oil and gas pipelines, which would bring the total network to 220,000 kilometers by 2030. The strategy also focuses on increasing natural gas reserves to cover more than 13% of national consumption.

In terms of environmental objectives, the plan targets an annual volume of 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide through carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCS/CCUS) projects by 2030. The broader initiative seeks to modernize the oil and gas industry through improved exploration, sustainable production, and diversified international cooperation.
