China tightens travel rules and establishes massive Beijing no-fly zone

China has implemented stricter travel regulations and established a massive no-fly zone around Beijing.

New exit and entry rules now allow authorities to ban individuals from leaving the country for periods ranging from six months to three years if they are deemed a threat to national technological or industrial security. These measures target those suspected of violating export controls or compromising national interests. Foreign nationals may also face entry bans of one to five years for providing false information on visa applications.

Simultaneously, a permanent special airspace restriction zone covering approximately 280,000 square kilometers will take effect on September 20. Centered in Beijing, the zone is comparable in size to Italy and encompasses Tianjin, parts of Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shandong, Liaoning, and the Bohai Sea. The restriction prohibits all flights from the ground to unlimited altitude, with exceptions only for commercial airlines, approved business flights, military, customs, police, and emergency services. This decision follows a June incident where a light aircraft crashed into a skyscraper in central Beijing.
