China to boost support for emerging pillar industries

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced that China will strengthen support for its emerging pillar industries to promote high-quality development. According to NDRC official Ren Zhongbao, the production value of these sectors is projected to exceed 10 trillion yuan (approximately 1.4 trillion USD) by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), nearly doubling the 6 trillion yuan recorded last year.

Key sectors targeted for reinforcement include integrated circuits, aerospace, biomedicine, low-altitude economy, new energy storage systems, and intelligent robotics. For future industries, the country will focus on quantum technology, bioproduction, hydrogen energy, nuclear fusion, brain-computer interfaces, embodied intelligence, and 6G.

To achieve these goals, China plans to utilize fiscal and financial policies to direct private capital toward these emerging sectors. The NDRC also stated that the government will support enterprises in leading national scientific and technological projects and creating innovation platforms. Recent data shows that in the first three quarters of 2026, Chinese integrated circuit production reached 442.8 billion units, a 23.3% year-on-year increase.
