China boosts autism screening and education in 15th Five‑Year Plan
China announced that, over the next five years, it will intensify support for people with autism as part of the 15th Five‑Year Plan (2026‑2030). The government will expand standardized screening and early‑intervention services for children aged 0‑6, ensuring every city‑level region can provide rehabilitation assistance. Provincial capitals and major cities will receive support to construct special‑education schools for autistic children. Zhou Changkui, president of the executive council of the China Federation of Persons with Disabilities, said the measures aim to give lifelong support, from early diagnosis to rehabilitation and education.
Official figures show more than 13 million people in China have autism, the largest share of mental‑disability cases. The state has already introduced free compulsory education from preschool through secondary school for autistic children from low‑income families, and the new plan will extend these provisions across the country.
