China urges international community to accelerate global development
Sun Lei, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, urged the international community to accelerate global development during a debate at the UN General Assembly's Second Committee. Highlighting that the implementation of the 2030 Agenda is lagging and the North-South development gap is widening, she called for renewed momentum to address insufficient resources and slowing growth.
Sun Lei proposed four key suggestions: maintaining a strategic focus by integrating the 2030 Agenda with national realities; increasing investment in areas such as poverty alleviation, food and energy security, and environmental protection; adopting an action-oriented approach to resolve cooperation barriers; and building an inclusive global development partnership. She specifically noted that developed nations must fulfill their commitments regarding development and climate financing.
Marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative, she expressed China's readiness to collaborate with all nations to support the 2030 Agenda.
