China urges Israel to halt West Bank settlements and reopen Gaza access

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the Seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. During the meeting, Wang urged Israel to stop and reverse the “forced establishment” of settlements in the West Bank, describing the Palestinian question as “the greatest historical injustice of this century.”

Wang emphasized that China remains committed to a two-state solution as the only viable path to peace. He also identified the immediate priority as ensuring full access to the Gaza Strip to prevent a worsening humanitarian catastrophe. China expressed its readiness to work with the international community to encourage all parties to return to dialogue and seek a political settlement.

In response, President Herzog noted the importance of bilateral economic, commercial, and cultural ties between China and Israel. However, he also highlighted strategic security threats to Israel, specifically citing Iran and its regional proxies as primary concerns.
