China urges Japan to confront atomic bomb legacy, halt remilitarization

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Dijian said Japan must stop using its status as a victim of the 1945 atomic bombings to gain international sympathy. He urged Tokyo to “reflect on the background of the atomic bomb drop” and to “face the historical facts of Japanese aggression during World War II.”

Lin added that Japan should fulfil its non‑proliferation obligations, refrain from developing its own nuclear capability and halt the recent “remilitarisation” steps, such as deploying anti‑ship missile systems on the Minamitorishima island and strengthening its military presence on Pacific islands. The Chinese government’s statement echoed these points, warning that the tragedy of nuclear weapons must never be repeated and that Japan should not try to escape responsibility for its wartime actions.
