China urges Japan to respect non-nuclear principles

China has urged Japanese authorities to adhere to international regulations regarding nuclear weapons and to respect the will of the Japanese public. Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian stated that Japan must fulfill its obligation not to accept, produce, possess, or proliferate nuclear weapons.

These remarks follow a survey by the Japan Association for Public Opinion Research, which indicated that 76% of Japanese citizens support the nation's three non-nuclear principles. Additionally, 77% of respondents believe Japan should not pursue nuclear sharing, a framework that would allow the United States to station nuclear weapons in Japan.

Lin Jian criticized recent moves by Japanese government figures to explore a "nuclear option," characterizing such actions as evidence of the growing political and military ambitions of right-wing forces. Lin noted that such paths risk the future of the Japanese population and defy the public's desire for peace and prosperity.
