China urges US and Iran to resume dialogue via Islamabad MoU
China has called on the United States and Iran to return to the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and resume diplomatic dialogue. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing hopes both nations will “choose peace, re-engage with the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and resume dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible.”
China expressed its continued support for initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region. The call for mediation follows a conflict that began on February 28, involving military actions by the US and Israel against Iran, which led to Iranian missile and drone strikes and the effective closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The Islamabad MoU, established on June 18, aims to reach a final peace agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program and maritime navigation in strategic waterways.
