China urges US and Iran to return to Islamabad MoU for peace

China has called on the United States and Iran to return to the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resume political and diplomatic negotiations. Beijing emphasized its support for resolving disputes through dialogue to restore peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

The Islamabad MoU, a 14-point interim understanding mediated by Pakistan in June, was designed to halt armed hostilities, reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and facilitate broader discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The agreement has regained prominence following discussions at the United Nations General Assembly.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a unified national resolve to expedite peace efforts outlined in the memorandum. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed that the document remains ‘totally acceptable’ to Tehran. Additionally, during a state visit to the United States, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged both parties to resolve differences through negotiation to end the conflict.
