China urges US to end military threats and sanctions against Cuba

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning called on Washington to cease any use‑of‑force threats toward Cuba and to lift the unilateral sanctions and embargo that have been in place for decades. She said the United States should stop its alleged preparations for a military operation against the island and respect Cuba’s sovereignty, while China will continue to support Cuba and work with other nations to uphold international law and justice.

The remarks came after reports surfaced that the United States was planning a military intervention in Cuba. Mao emphasized that the embargo is a “war‑like act” and urged the United States to end what she described as bullying of the Cuban people.
