China expresses concern over Taiwan's presence at Pacific Islands Forum

During the Pacific Islands Forum held in Palau, Chinese special envoy Qian Bo expressed “serious concerns” regarding the presence and level of access granted to Taiwan’s foreign minister at the summit. Qian warned that “there will always be consequences” when China is dissatisfied with such diplomatic arrangements.

Prior to the summit, China’s tourism ministry issued a warning to potential travelers regarding robbery risks in Palau. However, local officials and observers have characterized these warnings as unfounded, noting the nation's low crime rates. The tension highlights ongoing geopolitical friction between China and regional actors over Taiwan's international recognition.
