Indonesia’s EV Market Grows with New Affordable Chinese Models and Local Launches

By July 2026, four Chinese electric cars are priced below Rp250 million in Indonesia: BYD Atto 1 Standard (Rp199 M), Wuling Air ev Lite (Rp214 M), Changan Lumin (Rp222 M) and Geely EX2 Pro (Rp239.9 M). A separate list ranks the longest‑range Chinese EVs sold locally, led by BYD Seal Premium with a claimed 650 km CLTC range (Rp639 M) and followed by BYD Seal Performance AWD (580 km, Rp750 M), BYD Sealion 7 Premium (567 km, Rp629 M), BYD Sealion 7 Performance (542 km, Rp719 M) and Geely EX5 Max (530 km, Rp515 M).

Chinese brand iCAR began delivering its V23 model, marketed as a plug‑and‑play customizable EV with more than 20 modular mounting points. The company aims to have 30 official dealers in Indonesia by the end of 2026.

MG Motor handed over over 1,000 MG S5 EV SUVs to customers in Tangerang, highlighting growing domestic demand. CEO Jason Huang said, “Bagi kami, penjualan hanyalah awal dari sebuah hubungan jangka panjang.” The S5 EV offers ADAS level 2 and a range of over 400 km.

In India, Delhi announced a plan to ban sales of gasoline‑powered motorcycles from 2028, requiring new three‑wheelers and light trucks to be electric from 2027. The city targets a 30 % electric‑vehicle share by 2030 and will install more than 30,000 public charging stations.
