Nicaragua and Venezuela report fatal river accidents and missing persons
In Nicaragua, a tragic accident in the Chinandega department resulted in the deaths of three women after their vehicle was swept away by the Nahualapa River. The victims have been identified as Karen Naomi López Montano, a 19-year-old Nicaraguan worker, as well as Emma Marie Lorent, 24, from France, and Noe Lina Luzer, 20, from Switzerland. In response, Copresident Rosario Murillo has called for increased preventive alerts through the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism to ensure hotels and visitors are warned of sudden river rises during the rainy season.
In Venezuela, rescue operations are underway in the Sucre municipality of Miranda state following a sudden surge in a creek. Two adolescents, Waleska Alexandra Dueñas Urbina and Jhostin Josua Tobías, were swept away by the current in the El Indio sector. Two other minors were rescued from the water; one 16-year-old alerted authorities, while a 15-year-old was found in shock. Specialized rescue teams continue to search the area for the missing pair.
