China's BrainCo Secures $280 Million to Advance Wearable Brain‑Computer Interfaces

Chinese startup BrainCo, based in Hangzhou, is developing non‑invasive, wearable brain‑computer interface (BCI) devices that read neural signals through the scalp. The company raised 2 billion yuan (about US $280 million) in a funding round to expand its product line.

BrainCo already has FDA‑approved bionic hands that capture neural and muscular signals from amputees, and it plans a three‑phase rollout: first targeting patients covered by health insurance, then addressing conditions such as ADHD and depression, and finally entering the consumer electronics market. The firm emphasizes that wearable BCIs avoid surgery, making the technology more accessible and less risky compared with invasive approaches like Elon Musk’s Neuralink.

The funding and regulatory approvals position BrainCo to compete in a growing BCI sector, where both invasive and non‑invasive solutions are being explored for therapeutic and augmentation purposes.
