China's Communist Party poised for large-scale political purge
Chinese analysts link recent anti‑corruption investigations of former Beijing Political Consultative Conference chair Wei Xiaodong and ex‑Xinjiang party chief Ma Xingrui to a wider effort to purge officials tied to rival factions. Allegations claim the “Fujian gang” and other regional networks are implicated, and that the cases are being used by senior party organs as a template for a broader crackdown on Xi Jinping’s allies.
On June 15, the Party held an expanded national党建工作座谈会 in Beijing, chaired by Organisation Department head Shi Taifeng and unusually attended by Central Commission for Discipline Inspection deputy Liu Jinguo, who has overseen both the Wei and Ma cases. The enlarged meeting roster and Liu’s presence are seen as a signal that the Party is mobilising for a “big purge” of entrenched officials.
Both developments suggest an imminent, coordinated campaign to reshuffle the Party hierarchy and consolidate power within Xi’s inner circle.
