China's CXMT to build second Beijing DRAM fab after record $8.6 bn IPO

Chinese memory‑chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) completed a record‑breaking IPO on Shanghai’s STAR Market in July 2026, raising roughly $8.6‑10 billion. Its shares jumped more than 500 % on the first trading day, briefly making CXMT the most valuable listed company in China.

Analysts are sharply divided on the company’s future valuation, with price targets ranging from $160 billion to $1.1 trillion within the next year. CXMT now holds about 7‑8 % of the global DRAM market, up from roughly 3 % a year earlier, and aims to expand capacity by building a second 12‑inch DRAM fab in Yizhuang, southeast of Beijing. The project seeks at least 60 million yuan in support from the Beijing Economic‑Technological Development Area and could double total output to over 600,000 wafers per month.

The firm faces a technology gap with leaders Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron and is subject to U.S. export controls; the Pentagon has placed CXMT on its 1260H military blacklist, and U.S. senators have urged Apple to avoid its chips. Despite these headwinds, CXMT remains a central pillar of China’s drive for semiconductor self‑sufficiency.
