China’s development model cited as template for Latin America

During the Third China-Latin America and the Caribbean Roundtable on Human Rights in Lima, former Peruvian Prime Minister Eduardo Arana identified China’s development model as a template for Latin American nations. Arana emphasized that China’s focus on building essential infrastructure, such as roads and hospitals, serves as a foundation for exercising fundamental rights and eradicating poverty. He noted that China’s success in lifting approximately 800 million people out of poverty represents a historic milestone in citizen inclusion.

In a broader geopolitical context, the BRICS summit in New Delhi highlighted efforts to strengthen South-South cooperation and promote a more equitable model of global governance. The group aims to prioritize the needs of the Global South through multilateralism and shared development. This includes initiatives like China’s Global Development Initiative, which seeks to accelerate the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by focusing on poverty reduction and critical infrastructure financing.
