China's EV Sector Rolls Out Megawatt Charger and Updated Smart #1 Model

Dongfeng Motor Corporation announced the completion of two prototype systems at its Global Innovation Center: a kilovolt electric drive delivering up to 300 kW peak power and a megawatt‑class fast‑charging station capable of 1 500 kW per gun, designed for both passenger and commercial vehicles. The charger operates across a 150 V‑1 000 V voltage range with an efficiency of at least 96.7 %, marking a first under the new national energy‑efficiency standards.

Separately, Geely‑Mercedes joint‑venture Smart introduced the 2027 version of its Smart #1 in China, adding a larger central‑touchscreen, a LiDAR sensor on the roof, and redesigned door handles to meet upcoming Chinese safety regulations. The model also gains optional 19‑inch alloy wheels and new color trims, while the exterior spoiler is made more aerodynamic. The updates are slated for a later rollout in Europe as the brand prepares the forthcoming Smart #2.
