China's Exports to Germany Surge, Widen Trade Imbalance

In July 2026 China exported goods worth $12.3 billion (≈ 10.7 billion €) to Germany, a 17.4 % increase over the same month a year earlier. At the same time German imports into China fell 2.7 % to $7.9 billion. Over the January‑July period Chinese exports to Germany rose 18.8 % to $79.7 billion, while German imports grew only 1.1 % to $53 billion, creating a cumulative trade surplus of almost $27 billion in favour of China.

German industry officials warn that the widening gap threatens sectors such as the automotive and machine‑tool industries, where German firms are losing market share in China and face stronger competition worldwide. By contrast, China’s imports from other regions rose sharply in July – up 27.5 % overall, with notable increases from ASEAN (+36 %), Russia (+26.8 %), Africa (+25 %) and the United States (+15.3 %).
