China's Fifth Plenary Session faces reports of major leadership rumors and purges

Speculation is mounting regarding the upcoming Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, scheduled for October 26–29 in Beijing. Reports suggest the session may involve a significant purge of Central Committee members, potentially breaking records for expulsions from the Party. Analysts indicate that approximately 32 members may have their expulsions confirmed, including former high-ranking officials such as Lan Tianli, Wang Lixia, and Yi Huiman.

Further reports highlight a large number of officials currently in a state of disappearance, including at least 12 generals and 4 lieutenant generals from various military commands. This internal restructuring is being characterized by some observers as a widespread purge aimed at consolidating power.

Additionally, rumors have circulated regarding potential leadership changes, specifically suggesting that Li Qiang could succeed Xi Jinping as General Secretary or that Ding Xuexiang could become Premier. However, some analysts dismiss these rumors as mere political signaling or "testing the waters" by the current leadership, noting the complex internal dynamics and the high level of loyalty required within the current administration.
