China's Game Market Revenue Rises 12% in H1 2024
China's game industry reported a 12.17% year‑on‑year increase in actual sales revenue, reaching 1.8845 trillion yuan during the first half of 2024. The user base expanded to 684 million, up 0.82% from the same period a year earlier.
Domestic mobile games continued to dominate, accounting for 71.75% of total sales, with revenue of 1.3521 trillion yuan, a 7.9% rise. Revenue from self‑developed games overseas grew 30.22% to $123.72 billion (≈838 billion yuan), led by the United States, Japan and South Korea, which together contributed 53.84% of that income. Strategy games made up the largest share (46.91%) of the top‑100 overseas mobile titles, followed by synthesis, role‑playing and shooter genres.
The report also highlighted growth in client‑side and e‑sports segments, while console and PC web‑game sales declined. Overall, the sector showed robust growth driven by long‑tail titles and new releases, underscoring the resilience of China's gaming market.
