China's July Exports Jump 24% Amid Record Renewable Energy Capacity

China's exports rose by 23.9% in July year‑on‑year, the strongest monthly gain in recent months, driven largely by high‑tech products. Exports of electronic integrated circuits doubled to $38.7 billion, accounting for nearly 10% of total shipments. Imports also increased, up 27.5% in dollar terms, but the pace slowed from June’s 36% rise.

At the same time, China's installed power‑generation capacity reached a new record of 4.01 trillion kW. Renewable sources now provide 1.92 trillion kW (48.1% of total capacity) and supply over 25% of the nation’s electricity, reflecting a rapid shift toward solar, wind and storage. The International Renewable Energy Agency notes that Chinese solar and wind projects cost 14.5%–46.7% less than the global average.

Julian Evans‑Pritchard of Capital Economics said the export surge “was largely due to higher prices overall,” while Chinese customs data confirmed the strong performance of semiconductor shipments.
