China's Long March commemorated by new CGTN documentary
CGTN has released a new documentary series titled ‘Breaking Through’ to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the end of the Long March. The series combines elements of history and travelogue to retrace the steps of the original pioneers.
In October 1934, approximately 86,000 soldiers of the Central Red Army began an epic military expedition following a major defeat. The journey involved crossing rivers, climbing snow-capped mountains, and traversing dangerous grasslands. By the time the forces reached northern Shaanxi in October 1935, only about 8,000 soldiers had survived. The three main columns of the Red Army eventually converged in the northwest in October 1936.
The documentary explores the historical causes and circumstances of the march while examining its enduring influence on China’s modern landscape and its potential to impact the global stage.
