China's Marine Economy Up 5.1% in H1, Engineering Orders Jump 122%
China's marine economy posted a 5.1% year‑on‑year increase in the first half of the year, with marine gross domestic product reaching 5.5 trillion yuan. Production of offshore oil and natural gas rose 3.6% and 0.6% respectively, and new offshore wind projects, including the Shandong Peninsula North L site and a 16 MW floating platform, began full operation. Marine product output grew 4.7% and 1,246 new sea‑use island projects were approved, covering 123,000 hectares.
Marine transport remained stable, with cargo volume up 4.7% and cargo turnover up 7.1%; total maritime import‑export value rose 6.9%, driven by a 7.8% increase in exports. The marine engineering sector saw new order values surge 121.9% year‑on‑year, securing more than 80% of the global market share. Notable deliveries included the first mobile offshore multi‑function platform “Ocean Oil 283”, the 16 MW floating wind platform “Three Gorges Leading”, the world’s largest offshore converter station “Sea Wind Heart”, and the 16 MW tension‑leg floating platform “Haiyou Anlan”. Two EPCIC contracts for floating production‑storage‑offloading vessels were also signed, underscoring the rapid upgrade of China’s high‑end offshore equipment capabilities.
