China's Party and Defense Officials Cite Xi's Guidance in Policy Drive

On August 6, the Yantai municipal Party committee convened a meeting chaired by Party secretary Jiang Cheng. The gathering reviewed President Xi Jinping’s recent speeches and directives, stressing implementation of anti‑corruption measures, improvement of basic education, rural modernization and agricultural security, and the broader goals of the provincial 12th‑11th Party congress.

Ministry of Defense spokesperson Chen Xi later told reporters that the People’s Liberation Army is studying Xi’s speech delivered at the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party. He highlighted the PLA’s ongoing flood‑relief operations, noting the deployment of more than 2,400 troops, 70 boats and hundreds of vehicles across provinces such as Guangxi, Hubei and Gansu. Chen also described the air force’s modernization, warned against Japan’s expanding space‑military activities, affirmed that Chinese navy training in distant waters is routine and lawful, and reiterated opposition to Taiwan independence rhetoric.
