China’s Renewable Power Covers All New 2025 Demand, Fuels EV Surge

China reached a historic energy milestone in 2025: the extra electricity generated from renewable sources fully met the country's increased energy demand. Renewable installations accounted for 82.7% of the new capacity added that year, representing about 60% of the world's new renewable capacity, and the China Renewable Energy Development Report projects an additional 300 GW of wind and solar to be installed in 2026.

In the same period, China continued to dominate the global electric‑vehicle market. Worldwide EV sales topped 20 million units in 2025, and one in four new cars sold globally was electric. Chinese manufacturers sold more than 13 million EVs, holding roughly a 55% market share and supplying the same proportion of EVs exported to markets outside Europe and the United States. Six of every ten EVs sold worldwide were Chinese‑made, and the average price of EVs fell in major markets, narrowing the gap with internal‑combustion vehicles.
