In China, a new class of “senior care managers” has emerged to help families navigate the fragmented nursing‑home market. Operating like real‑estate agents, they assess facilities, film tours, and match seniors with appropriate homes for a modest consultation fee. One example involved a 76‑year‑old Alzheimer’s patient in Chongqing whose daughters used such a service to find a dementia‑specialized nursing home, paying a monthly fee of about 4,800 yuan after subsidies. The rise of these managers coincides with China’s rapidly aging population—over 323 million people aged 60+ by the end of 2025—and a shortage of occupied nursing‑home beds.
