In Guangdong, the provincial public security department launched the "Thunder Guard" (雷霆护航) strict‑law enforcement campaign on July 1, aimed at ensuring safety for the 2026 APEC summit. Within the first month, criminal case resolution rose 33%, while overall criminal police alerts fell 21.7%. The operation led to the arrest of 3,432 suspects, the capture of 795 fugitives, and the dismantling of several fraud rings, including a jade‑live‑stream scam involving over 38 million yuan. Authorities also cracked down on online rumors, investigating 3,508 cases and detaining 69 individuals for spreading false information about Typhoon Red Xia. The campaign reported significant reductions in theft, robbery, and traffic violations, contributing to a safer social environment.
