China's Xi Jinping orders intensified flood control and disaster relief measures

China's top leader Xi Jinping, serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party, President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, issued urgent directives on flood prevention and disaster relief. He responded to recent heavy rainfall and strong winds that caused dam breaches, landslides and significant loss of life and property in Guangxi, Hubei, Gansu and other regions.

Xi stressed that local authorities must fully implement existing plans, strengthen monitoring, early‑warning systems and emergency rescue preparedness, provide medical care for the injured and resettle affected populations. Premier Li Qiang echoed the call, ordering continuous monitoring of rain and flood conditions, thorough risk assessment, comprehensive rescue operations, and strict implementation of all flood‑control and relief measures to prevent secondary disasters.
