Chinavita School Wins Third Place at World Educational Gardens Championship

The school in the municipality of Chinavita, Boyacá, Colombia, earned third place in the Latin American ranking of the First World Educational Gardens Championship 2026. Led by teacher Claudia Patricia Espitia Martínez, students from the Zanja Abajo campus represented the department and also received two special global mentions.

The project uses a school garden as a cross‑cutting tool, involving families in soil preparation, native seed selection and organic crop conservation. The competition, organized by the French Landestini Foundation, gathered more than 340 institutions and 11,000 students from countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. The awards open opportunities for international visibility, knowledge exchange and seed transfer, positioning Boyacá as a reference for educational innovation and ecological stewardship.
