Chinese academic Fu Lei accused of misconduct and research fraud by daughters
Two sisters in China, aged 20 and 15, have released an 86-page document accusing their father, Fu Lei, of long-term misconduct and academic irregularities. Fu Lei, 47, is a former professor at Wuhan University and currently serves as the Vice President of Anhui University.
The document alleges that Fu has maintained an improper relationship since 2016 with Zeng Mengqi, a former doctoral student who is now a professor. Beyond personal allegations, the dossier includes claims of academic fraud, misappropriation of research funds, and the misuse of state resources. The allegations have prompted investigation teams from both Wuhan University and Anhui University to review the matter.
The sisters also detailed the personal impact of the situation, noting that Fu abandoned his family, leaving his wife to manage significant mortgage debts and child-rearing alone. Following a confrontation by the eldest daughter during a university leadership meeting, Fu reportedly signed an agreement to provide monthly financial support of approximately 5,000 yuan (roughly $700 USD).
