Chinese actors face criticism over performance professionalism

Dozens of Chinese actors are facing public criticism following their performances at the ‘Moonlight Bay’ arts festival. High-profile stars, including Zhang Linghe, Meng Ziyi, Zhang Ruoyun, and Ou Yang Na Na, have been accused of unprofessionalism and ‘occupying the resources’ of professional singers.

The controversy gained significant traction on Weibo, becoming a top trending topic. Specific criticisms were leveled at Zhang Linghe and Ou Yang Na Na during their duet, where viewers noted Zhang’s microphone appeared silent, leading to allegations of lip-syncing. Ou Yang Na Na also faced backlash for lyrical errors and a perceived lack of preparation. Other artists, such as Xie Jinyan, were scrutinized after audiences noticed singing audio despite the performer not wearing a microphone.

While some fans defended the artists by sharing rehearsal footage to disprove lip-syncing claims, others argued that celebrities must maintain high standards of performance and competence when appearing at major events. Some observers suggested that the use of vocal aids might have been a pre-arranged decision by organizers to ensure the show proceeded smoothly.
