Chinese AI models maintain 18-week lead in global usage

Chinese AI models have maintained their lead in global usage over U. S. models for 18 consecutive weeks, according to data from OpenRouter. Between August 24 and August 30, global AI model usage reached approximately 113 trillion tokens, a 21.11% increase from the previous week. Chinese models accounted for 55.16 trillion tokens, while U. S. models recorded 17.07 trillion tokens.

The top three models by weekly usage were all from China. The model previously known by the anonymous code name Ox Alpha recorded 15.7 trillion tokens of usage. Zhipu later confirmed that Ox Alpha is actually GLM-5.3-Flash, a new member of its GLM family.

Separately, the B. AI platform reported surpassing a milestone of 5.74 trillion cumulative tokens processed. The platform provides access to several frontier models, including GLM-5.3-Flash, Qwen3.8-Flash, and DeepSeek-V4-Flash, often without direct compute costs for users.
