Chinese automakers expand manufacturing presence in Brazil
Chinese automotive manufacturers are expanding their presence in Brazil by establishing local production facilities. This shift from importing to domestic manufacturing is driven by the growing demand for technological, electric, and hybrid vehicles.
Key players include BYD, which has taken over the former Ford industrial complex in Camaçari, Bahia, to produce models such as the Dolphin and Song Plus, as well as electric bus chassis. Great Wall Motors (GWM) has acquired the former Mercedes-Benz plant in Iracemápolis, São Paulo, focusing on hybrid SUVs and flex-fuel pickups. Additionally, CAOA Chery operates a consolidated manufacturing site in Anápolis, Goiás, producing the Tiggo SUV line.
