Chinese automakers expand presence in Brazil

Chinese automakers are expanding their presence in the Brazilian automotive market, driven by excess production capacity in Asia. Currently, approximately 16 Chinese companies are officially operating in Brazil, including brands such as BYD and Caoa Changan.

BYD has established local assembly operations in Camaçari, Bahia, producing models like the Song Pro, Dolphin Mini, and King using partially disassembled kits. The company recently launched the Song Pro hybrid flex, with versions priced between R$ 176,990 and R$ 199,990. Additionally, BYD has implemented price reductions for the Dolphin Mini electric model, offering discounts of up to R$ 10,000 to increase competitiveness in the urban electric vehicle segment.

Other active players include Caoa Changan, which assembles the Uni-T SUV in Anápolis, Goiás, and Caoa Chery. This influx of Chinese brands represents a significant shift in the national market compared to a decade ago when earlier Chinese brands struggled with reputation and service networks.
