Xiaomi SU7 reaches 500,000 deliveries amid intense EV competition

Xiaomi has reached a major milestone in its automotive expansion, with its first electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, surpassing 500,000 cumulative deliveries in approximately 28.5 months. While the SU7 remains a primary driver for the company, overall vehicle sales across its lineup—including the YU7 SUV—have exceeded 760,000 units.

Despite this success, the company faces challenges. SU7 deliveries in the first seven months of 2026 were down approximately 44% year-over-year, as the brand's newer SUV models begin to capture more market share. Additionally, Xiaomi is working toward an ambitious annual delivery target of 550,000 vehicles for 2026, having reached only 39% of that goal by July.

Financial reports indicate that while Xiaomi's smart EV and new initiatives segment saw revenue growth, the company's smartphone division has faced pressure from rising memory chip costs. To maintain momentum, Xiaomi is expanding into the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) market with its Sky Nomad series and planning a European market entry in 2027.

Broadly, the Chinese EV industry is experiencing intense competition and compressed development cycles. Some manufacturers are shortening testing periods to bring models to market faster, a trend that industry observers warn could impact long-term profitability and safety standards.
